Hartland Area Fire

We are located in North-East Livingston County, MI

Protection is provided from three stations utilizing 4 engines, 1 Heavy Rescue, 3 dedicated medical/brush fire response units, 1 dedicated medical response unit, and 1 dive rescue unit.  We also house and deploy the County's Mobile Command Center.

Most of the department's staff is Part-time (Paid on-call) with around 50 personnel. To provide safer firefighter staffing levels during day-time emergencies we have 7 firefighters working shifts Monday through Friday. 4 of those are full-time employees that are firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians in addition to their administrative tasks. We also have around 15 Junior firefighters (16-18 year olds)that are interested in community involvement and train along side firefighters learning to provide firefighter support functions.

For the fastest medical intervention, all Hartland apparatus are licensed and equipped for emergency medical response. In addition, five Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) are in use: one at each station and 2 on roving units for rapid response to cardiac emergencies. We are also in the process of raising the licensure and standard of care we provide from "Medical First Responder"(MFR) to "Basic Life Support"(B-EMT). Basic life support providers have several additional skills and tools available for life threatening emergencies.

We are responsible for fire protection and emergency medical first response for Hartland and Deerfield Townships and the Lake Shannon Association, for a total coverage area of approximately 73 square miles.
